TV and monitor makers just aren't as successful as they used to be

Once upon a time, laptops were rare and expensive, tablets didn't exist and phones only had monochrome, electronic paper screens.

Thus, the display industry essentially consisted of TVs and monitors.

Not so today, with so many tablets, smartphones and other small gadgets. They are so many that they are distracting potential TV and monitor buyers.

That is why TrendForce, as Digitimes so eagerly reports, was faced with a rather harsh reality after it completed its latest survey of the large-panel display industry: shipments are falling. Or rather, shipments continue to fall.

In June, they went down 2.5% compared to the previous months.

TV vendors have managed a cumulative 18.78 million, 7.7% lower on month. A further drop is expected from July, of 2-3%.

Meanwhile, monitor panels slid to 14.02 million, a 4% drop.
