OpenTTD, an open source simulation game based upon the popular Microprose game "Transport Tycoon Deluxe" written by Chris Sawyer, is now at version 1.2.3.

Younger readers might not remember, but Transport Tycoon Deluxe was a major simulation, back in the day. OpenTTD tries to mimic the original game as closely as possible, but at the same time it adds new features.

OpenTTD has improved the original game in many areas, starting with the maps, which are now 64 times bigger than they were in Transport Tycoon Deluxe.

Players can now meet in a stable multiplayer mode that supports up to 255 players in 15 companies, or as spectators, and the game even features dedicated server mode and an in-game console for administration.

OpenTTD provides IPv6 and IPv4 support for all communication of the client and server and user benefit from in-game downloading of AIs, NewGRFs, scenarios, and height maps.

Highlights of OpenTTD 1.2.3:

• The reference brightness of 32bpp mask recoloring has been set to 128; • The configure script now properly handles _BUILD flags during reconfigure; • The configure script now detects libfontconfig 2.10 as newer than 2.3; • The bootstrap download no longer crashes when fontconfig is not available; • A crash that occurred when a gamescript provided too many parameters to a GSText object has been fixed; • API documentation mistakes and omissions has been fixed; • Duplicates are no longer added to the ban list; • Draw the window resize sprite has been bottom-aligned; • Vehicle list at buoys now works properly; • Naming of bundles was somewhat broken, now they are correct; • Non-train vehicle lists are now resorted properly; • The mousewheel now works in the build waypoint window; • Changing auto-refit for a 'goto station' order no longer modifies the full load state; • The global goals are no longer shown as company goals for spectators.
