Company promotes the things based on their ability to work without a backlight

Transparent screens are one of Samsung's most recent and ambitious projects, so the company obviously wants it to gain traction, hence the praise it has been sending its way and the list of prospective customers it has been putting together.

Apparently, Samsung is convinced that the time of futuristic windows displays should be now, not later.

It can't actually warp reality to reflect this so-called ideal, though, so the company is working towards the next best thing.

In 2012, it intends to conduct an advertising campaign that will finally get the LTI460AP01 Transparent LCD in more stores and public venues.

Advertising in retail environments is one use, as is the, admittedly more far-off, installation of LCDs instead of windows.

The LTI460AP01 Transparent LCD has a maximum resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels (HD), which is lower than the 1,920 x 1,080 full HD quality of most new monitors and TVs.

HD is still a lot, though, especially when the power consumption is 10% of what similarly-sized, standard panels boast.

After all, as long as ambient light exists, the backlight doesn't have to be turned on.

Thus, sunlight and room lighting are actually beneficial and convenient, not elements that hinder the visibility (normal LCDs and the sun don't get along well).

Nighttime is when the transparent BLU can be turned on if owners so wish (it is a specially-designed backlighting solution).

So far, only a few retail applications have been demonstrated and there probably won't be many transparent TVs or monitors on the market, if they even come to be.

Still, TV/window hybrids and such could be just what hotels and airports need.

Add to that voice command activation/ recognition and there will be interactive, 'living' buildings in little to no time at all. Samsung did say buildings with personality would exist in ten years (go here for more details).
