Transmission, one of the favorites in BitTorrent clients for Mac, has reached version 1.50 Beta, adding support for Internet Protocol version 6, (IPv6). The latest stable version of the software (Transmission 1.42) is also available for free download.

According to the changelog, Transmission 1.50 Beta 1 adds IPv6 support, and several bug fixes. Additionally, when removing local data, only data from the torrent will be removed, developer Eric Petit now claims. The latest stable version of the client adds more accurate bandwidth limits, stability, security, and performance improvements to the RPC/Web UI server, and more.

Internet Protocol version 6 – in short IPv6 – is the next-generation Internet Layer protocol for packet-switched internetworks and the Internet. Currently the dominant Internet Protocol version, IPv4 was the first to receive widespread use, being designated as the successor to version 4 by the publication of a Standards Track specification, RFC 2460, in December 1998.

Transmission is a BitTorrent client much like Vuze, or uTorrent. Built from the ground up to be a lightweight, yet powerful BitTorrent client, it sports a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any OS. It runs natively on Mac OS X, seamlessly configuring your network, banning peers who send corrupted data intelligently, using protocol encryption and built-in Peer Exchange.

Everything is done in the background, so users needn't worry about manipulating settings. Whether you want to queue your torrents for maximum performance or throttle their speed during peak periods, Transmission lets you do both. It also allows you to ration commodity efficiently, only slowing down your system when you actually focus on it, meaning that your other work won't be affected.

Transmission is open source. Most of the code is licensed under the GNU General Public License with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License. Use the link below to download the latest version of Transmission.
