14 DAY TRIAL // Transmission, the popular BitTorrent client, has been promoted to version 2.0.0 Beta 1, adding "Local Peer Discovery" for finding peers on the local network, optimizations, a new Compact View replacing the Minimal View, the ability to allow trackers to be pasted into the Create Window, and more.
According to the release notes for Transmission 2 Beta 1, all supported platforms (Mac and Linux) get "Local Peer Discovery" for finding peers on the local network, optimized peer connections and requests based on available bandwidth, smarter heuristics when deciding which peers to try connecting to first, and better handling of 404 tracker errors. Additionally, the software now uses IEC standard units (KiB, MiB, GiB) instead of (KB, MB, GB).
Mac-only changes include the aforementioned Compact View, which replaces Minimal View, taking up considerably less space, showing an Add Transfer window when adding magnet links, while "Resume All" now ignores finished transfers. Transmission 2 Beta 1 also allows trackers to be pasted into the Create Window on Mac OS X. GTK+ and Qt changes are listed as follows:
