Transmission, a BitTorrent client similar to Vuze, or uTorrent, has received a new update recently, bringing the piece of software to version 1.75b1. Transmission is open source, while most of the code is licensed under the GNU General Public License, with select code licensed under the liberal MIT License. The program boasts a simple, intuitive interface designed to integrate tightly with any OS.

Transmission runs natively on Mac OS X, seamlessly configuring your network, banning peers who send corrupted data intelligently, using protocol encryption and built-in Peer Exchange. It also allows you to efficiently ration commodity, only slowing down your system when you actually focus on it. Version 1.75b1 delivers a number of under-the-hood tweaks for all platforms. According to the release notes, Transmission 1.75b1 brings the following changes:

- Adding corrupt/invalid torrents could crash Transmission;
- Fix a couple of high CPU problems with UTF-8 and with embedded machines;
- Fix 1.74 bug that stopped some torrents after getting a tracker error message;
- Handle HTTP redirects more gracefully;
- Faster verification of local data for torrents with small piece size;
- Fix 1.74 build error when compiling without DHT.

Transmission can be downloaded and used for free on any machine running Mac OS X 10.4.11 or later. The program is a Universal Binary, good for both Intel and PowerPC Macs. Recent updates have made Transmission 64-bit compatible, allowing it to run on Snow Leopard in 64-bit mode. Use the link below to download the latest version of the piece of software available.

Transmission also boasts support for Internet Protocol version 6. Internet Protocol version 6 – in short IPv6 – is the next-generation Internet Layer protocol for packet-switched Internetworks and the Internet. IPv6 was the first to receive widespread use, being designated as the successor to version 4 by the publication of a Standards Track specification, RFC 2460, in December 1998.
