Michael Bay is currently working on “Transformers 4,” which, he says, won’t be a reboot but rather a natural continuation into a different direction of the other 3 films. Part of this switch is opting for a female instead of a male lead, it would seem.

Bleeding Cool reports that a casting vote for “Transformers 4” has been sent out and, believe it or not, it’s not looking for a guy to replace Shia LaBeouf, the lead until “The Dark of the Moon.”

“The new female lead that they are looking for is a high school senior and her boyfriend a Texas racing driver,” the note says.

This could mean that Michael Bay is actually looking to shake things up a bit by bringing a woman to carry the entire movie on her shoulders (well, hers and the autobots’).

Either that, or it’s just a poor choice of words.

If you think about it, Megan Fox and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were also “female leads” in theory, even though in action they were just eye candy for when LaBeouf wasn’t there to provide the action.

Bay has already said that “Transformers 4” will head into space, insisting that fans will not perceive the new cast and story arc as a break from the trilogy. We’ll see about that.
