Since keeping up to speed with the latest technological developments is always a must, Transcend decided it was time for its collection of solid state drives to switch over to more advanced controller chips.

When solid state drives first started to gain traction, Transcend was among the quickest hard disk drive makers to enter the race.

Since then, it has been doing its best to stay in the lead when it comes to putting each new advancement to good use.

Of course, when it comes to such devices, the controller chip ends up being the most relevant.

That said, the company issued an official press release through which it revealed the fact that it has completed its upgraded 2.5-inch SSDs.

Exactly which chip is employed was not stated, but Transcend did offer some basic performance numbers, though not a full spec sheet.

32 GB, 64 GB, 128 GB and 256 GB models exists so far, all of them featuring 64 MB of built-in DDR2 cache memory and speeds of up to 260 MB/s when reading and 240 MB/s when writing.

To this are added random read/write rates of 40 MB/s and 27 MB/s, respectively, as well as built-in ECC (Error Correction Code) and support for the TRIM command.

Other features include RoHS compliance, noiseless operation thanks to the lack of moving parts and static wear leveling, among other things.

“This dramatically improved performance not only reduces average system boot times, but also offers stutter-free response and stability for netbooks, notebooks, high-end gaming PCs and industrial computers,” says the company's press release.

“Users can also take advantage of their cool, noiseless operation to enjoy the perks of silent and practical computing.”

The new drives have not been priced but are backed by two-year warranties and shouldn't take to long in showing up in stores.
