Flash memory may just be making its first steps in the area of PC storage but it has been used, and still is, extensively in the making of those ultraportable, convenient and easily losable devices known as USB Flash drives. The market for such items gets new updates and members on a regular basis, most often several at once, a phenomenon, which has how repeated with Transcend's release of its V series JetFlash 500 family. Coming in capacities of up to 32GB, the devices are “an ideal portable storage solution for users with busy and active lifestyles.”

The JetFlash 500 weigh about 10 grams and measure 63.1 x 21 x 8.8 mm. They come in five different storage capacities, namely 2GB, 4GB, 8GB, 16GB and the aforementioned 32GB. These storage spaces are packed inside the small enclosure that features a capless design and a sliding mechanism for the USB connector.

This mechanism keeps dust out and the overall construction gives the products a measure of shock resistance. Of course, this resilience would not be worthwhile if the drives didn't have matching performance.

As such, the flash drives have read and write speeds of up to 20MB and 6MB, respectively, except for the more powerful 32GB model, which reads and writes at 32MB/s and 18MB/s, respectively. Finally, to make its storage units appealing to a wider range of consumers, Transcend is offering each model in a variety of color options, including orange, red, blue, green and purple.

“The stylish JetFlash 500 features a smooth sliding USB connector that eliminates the need for caps and effortlessly extends and retracts with a simple flick of the thumb. With its user-friendly capless design, various color and capacity options and smooth contoured shape, the JetFlash 500 is an ideal portable storage solution for users with busy and active lifestyles,” the press release reveals.

The press release doesn't mention the exact prices of the devices but considering they are already shipping, they should reach stores soon, which means the prices themselves won't stay hidden for much longer.
