Transcend is a very well known memory manufacturer and PCB integrator. In the last years, the company has concentrated all its activity in developing memory sticks for mobile computing use rather than for desktop integration. And it seems that all this time they have learned few things about SO-DIMMS since modules from Transcend come preinstalled in many laptops. If this doesn't ring any bells maybe the following statement will prove to be more interesting to you.

Recently, Transcend has announced that they will also produce Micro-DIMMs. The word "micro" translates into memory modules that are almost half the size of standard SO-DIMMs. And now, Transcend has announced its very own 1GB Micro-DIMM module.

The Micro-DIMM coming from Transcend complies with standards being 40% smaller than traditional SO-DIMMs and also using less power than its larger brother. Less power almost always translates into less heat so the new Micro-DIMMs could turn some heads in the lightweight portables industry.

Transcend has upped the maximum capacity of its Micro-DIMM memory module to 1GB so you can install a whopping 2GBs in your sub-notebook. The new DDR2-533 module uses a 214-pin, which is not located at the bottom of the stick, but it is glued to the PCB of the memory on the lateral side of it. Of course the new Micro-DIMMs comply with all standards imposed by JEDEC regarding laptop memories. The modules operate at 1.8V which is the standard value for DDR2 and feature FBGA chip package and a lifetime warranty from the producer. Transcend did not release any info regarding the price of its1GB DDR2-533 Micro-DIMM (PN: TS128MMQ64V5Q) sticks but before you buy them, you'd better make sure they fit in your machine.
