While most consumers, business users and industrial workers are usually careful with their electronics, there are those that work in especially hazardous environments or are simply more susceptible to dropping, slipping or otherwise subjecting their devices to the possibility of death by crushing. Transcend has decided that technology, especially the latest one, shouldn't have to pay for such hazards, so it has come up with a certain storage solution that seeks to withstand any level of force.

The newest rugged electronic that the company has prepared is known as the StoreJet 25M3 and merges the highest level of performance with the same degree of durability. When it comes to the hardware itself, the developer 'simply' implemented support for the SuperSpeed USB 3.0 standard, which works at up to 5Gbps, ten times faster than any USB 2.0 connection. Providing 500GB or 640GB of storage space was also not a particularly daunting task. The real challenge was making the unit as sturdy as it was intended.

To make sure that the portable hard disk would have the opportunity to be smashed, crushed and dropped without noticeable consequences, Transcend made use of three main design elements. One is a reinforced hard casing. The second is a vibration-absorbing silicone outer shell. Finally, the third and most important feature is an internal suspension damper.

The StoreJet 25M3 complies with US military drop-test standards (MIL-STD-810F 516.5- Transit Drop) and even comes with 256-bit AES encryption. As for performance, end-users will be able to enjoy transfer speeds of 90MB/s and will have the ability to perform automatic and scheduled backup operations via the One Touch auto-backup button and the StoreJet Elite software. Unfortunately, prices have not been mentioned, but the 500GB and 640GB models should show up on sale shortly, backed by a three-year warranty.
