2.5-inch drives redesigned with new casings

Transcend has recently revealed that its full line of 2.5-inch solid state drives has received what the company dubs “a radical redesign” aimed at complementing the performance and capacity of the storage units with security features. The company gave its SATA and IDE SSDs a new type of casing, which provides the storage models with added reliability and security thanks to the implementation of tamper-resistant features.

The new SSD cases are designed with an elegant but simple, polished, high-gloss finish. They have an improved appearance and a high durability, thanks to the high-quality plastic they are made of, and are lighter than the original enclosures. This new type of cases was bestowed upon all of the company's SSD models, but, in order to easily differentiate between them, all product types carry their very own decorative panel. SATA SSD panels are pure black, the IDE SSD front panels boast “lively square patterns” and the SATA SSDs from the Ultra Series are bestowed with “intricate diamond pattern panels.”

While the new aspect of the SSDs is noticeable, their aesthetic value is not the main added benefit. Transcend specifically put the enclosures together as a means to enable counterfeit prevention and tampering. Consumers will gain “extra peace of mind” thanks to a variety of tamper-resistant features, such as tamper-evident seals and the Transcend logo security hologram. The company implemented these elements in order to further assure its customers that the products they received were 100% genuine and that they had never been opened or tampered with by other customers or any third-parties. As such, the quality and authenticity of the devices are guaranteed.

The new casings are lighter than the originals, which means that they are now even better suited for use in laptops and netbooks. Information on the company's entire SSD line may be found here.
