Transcend Information, better known on the market as Transcend, is a computer hardware manufacturing company that specializes in flash products, system memory and various peripherals. On the 16th of August, Transcend launched its newest card reader product called the Multi-Card Reader M3.

This
device comes packed in a compact form and it is adapter free as well as a multi format card reader with a modern style casing. To make it easier for users to tell apart the different card slots, there are clear markings on the top of the device. The Transcend Multi-Card Reader M3 comes with a high speed USB version 2.0 connection and as it fully supports high speed memory modules, it allows the speedy transfer of "music, videos, photos or documents to and from all different kinds of portable devices", according to the press release from Transcend concerning the launch of this product.

A true multi card reader, Transcend's M3 offers a slot for just about any card format on the market today. Among the supported cards, users will find: "CF cards (for hi-end Digital SLR cameras), SD cards (the most popular storage format for mainstream consumer digital cameras), xD-Picture Card, Memory Stick Series (for specific brands), miniSD and microSD (for most mobile phones)".

Thanks to its USB connection capabilities the M3 multi card reader can reach data transfer speeds up to 480Mbps. In addition to popular card formats, the multi reader is also compatible with the mini data cards found in cell phones with multimedia capabilities. These cards like miniSD, microSD, MMCmobile, MS Duo and M2 are also supported without the use of an adapter as the only card format that needs such a device is the MMCmicro. The M3 is compatible with all popular operating systems in use today like Microsoft's Windows 98SE /Me /2000 /XP /Vista, Mac OS 9.X or later and any Linux distribution based on a Kernel 2.4 or later.
