Well-known memory and storage specialist Transcend has just launched a new SATA III SSD. The new product features a slim size and only measures 7 millimeters in thickness.

Transcend’s new addition to its SSD product line uses a SandForce SF2281 controller and is designated as SSD320.

The SSD320 comes in three different capacities allowing for 64 GB, 128 GB or 256 GB of storage.

All SandForce SSDs are plagued by varying read and write performance depending on the data that’s stored on the drive and they only deliver the maximum rated performance when the drive is trimmed and empty.

Transcend’s SSD320 will be no different than the other SF2281 drives in the market, so readers should keep in mind that the official performance ratings represent ideal scenarios in which the drive delivers its best result.

The company touts an ideal sequential read speed of 560 MB/s and an ideal sequential write speed of 530 MB/s and these ratings are likely for the 256 MB drive.

The press release also presents a general 4k random file write maximum performance of 87,000 IOPS, but this is also likely a result obtained by the 256 GB model.

The new additions are priced at $79 for the 64 GB model, $129 for the 128 GB version and $229 for the 256 GB drive.

For European buyers, the new drives are priced around €66 for the 64 GB model, €107 for the 128 GB version and €189 for the 256 GB drive.

The product ships with 8 screws and a 3.5” adapter mounting bracket and is backed by a 3-year limited warranty.
