14 DAY TRIAL // The more recent product releases from Transcend were either speedy hard drives or low-profile DDR3 memory modules, but it seems that the company has not forgotten about its flash-drive lineup, which it has just expanded with three new models. The company has debuted the StoreJet 620, its latest series of flash drives that aims to provide end-users with a secure way of carrying along important digital files.
The drives measure 60.9 x 19.3 x 8.5 mm and have a weight of 8.5 grams. They have storage capacities of 8GB, 16GB and 32GB and are designed with special features such as the built-in 256-bit Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) security and high transfer speeds. These speeds are achieved thanks to the special dual-channel technology that allows for data-transfer rates of up to 32MB/s when reading and of up to 18MB/s when writing. This high performance is supplemented by the aforementioned encryption technology, which uses password protection to prevent unauthorized access.
A third feature of the products is not so much a new technology as a special utility. Transcend is offering its JetFlash SecureDrive software in a bundle with the devices. This utility creates private, password-protected areas on the JetFlash drive and also allows users to resize that Private Zone and frequently change the password. This gives owners of the device a higher control over their USB flash device and does not allow the data to fall in the hands of “hackers, nosy co-workers, curious family members or identity thieves.”
The JetFlash 620 drives are made with high-quality NAND Flash memory chips. Furthermore, the storage units' productivity can be enhanced through the use of the JetFlash Elite data-management tools. This downloadable software can give the flash devices the ability to automatically log on to website accounts or temporarily lock a computer, among other things. The 8GB, 16GB and 32GB JetFlash 620 flash drives are accompanied by a three-year warranty.
