Small, lightweight, portable computer systems are becoming increasingly popular, which is why we are also seeing numerous systems vendors equipping some of their latest systems with flash-based solid state drives. This is because SSDs are proving to be ever more reliable as a high-performance storage solution, and can now provide an even better price per Gigabyte ratio. Transcend is one of the leading flash-based products makers and its latest SSDs have been designed to meet the requirements of today's high-end notebooks.

Coming in a notebook-ready form factor, Transcend's latest 2.5-inch SSDs are provided with both SATA II and IDE interfaces, and can deliver a maximum storage capacity of 64GB. In addition, the overall design of the company's most recent drives allows for them to ensure a secure environment for storing all of your most important data. They are equipped with a tough, but lightweight case that provides a high level of resistance to shock and vibration. Furthermore, Transcend's new SSDs have been built as a highly reliable, low power consumption storage solution for most upcoming notebooks.

The new SSDs from Transcend have been designed to deliver double the read/write speeds of previous models, offering a sustained read/write speed of up to 159MB and 136MB, respectively. Performance-wise, these speeds are achieved with latencies below 1ms and, with the new built-in ECC (Error Correction Code), Transcend's SSDs can offer users a highly reliable data transfer and an increased overall system integrity.

Unfortunately, at the moment, there are no details on pricing and availability of the new Transcend SSDs. However, when the company does make them available, these SSDs will have to compete with similar offerings from major storage solution providers such as OCZ, Samsung, Toshiba, Intel and others. This, in turn, goes to prove that solid state drives are becoming all the more popular with time.
