14 DAY TRIAL // A new addition to the sizable collection of SuperSpeed USB 3.0 storage devices has been revealed, one made by Transcend and called ESD400.
A solid-state drive, it can achieve a read speed of 410 MB/s and a maximum writing speed of 380 MB/s.
The performance varies by capacity, as usual, but not overmuch. So even if you buy one of the lower-end models, you will still get a storage device superior, speed-wise, to most others out there.
On that note, there are four ESD400 USB 3.0 portable solid-state drives: 128 GB (featuring a price of $109 / €109 no matter what exchange rates would suggest), 256 GB ($189 / €189), 512 GB ($349 / €349) and 1 TB ($699 / €699) capacities.
All of them are, of course, backwards compatible with USB 2.0 ports, but speed will be limited to 480 Mbps in that case.
Moving on, the design Transcend settled on consists of a black case with an angular, zigzagging pattern, plus the logo colorfully embedded on the top. Moreover, the SSDs measure 92 x 62 x 10.5 mm / 3.62 x 2.44 x 0.41 inches and weigh 56g / 1.97 oz each.
