Andrej Pejic, named by several major fashion publications “the prettiest boy in the world” or the world’s most beautiful male model, broke the barrier between genders because, thanks to his androgynous look, he was able to model both male and female fashion for several years.

Andrej is now Andreja: she came out as trans last summer, and has documented her journey on camera, for a film that she’s now asking for your help on Kickstarter to finance to release. “Andrej(a),” the documentary in question, is now complete but it still needs a distribution and the money needed for post-production.

Andreja and her team, which includes good friend and director Eric Miclette and producer Michael Hirschorn, want the documentary out because hers is a story that can bring much-needed attention to the trans community, still one of the most discriminated against minorities in the world.

She wants other trans men and women out there know that they’re not alone in this, that someone out there understands how they’re feeling because they felt this way too and that, as the saying goes, it does get better.

“Andrej(a)” is done shooting, but the team behind it still needs money for post-production and distribution. The world-famous model is reaching out to her supporters so far, opening up to them on her often-times painful journey, asking them for help: the smallest amount counts.

Of the $200,000 (€154,995) needed, over $18,700 (€14,496) has been pledged so far, and the campaign still has 31 more days to go.

Andreja wants her story told to help others

As the most famous androgynous model in the world (and there’s really no exaggeration in saying that), Adreja was under immense pressure to remain a man and continue to model both for men and women’s fashion.

The decision to come out as a trans-woman and share with the world what she’d always known, that she was female, was a painful one. Fashion insiders even tried to dissuade her from making the announcement, promising her that her career will end once she comes out with it.

Andreja still believes that this won’t be the case. Her movie is her mission to tell the world it needs to learn more about unconditional love and acceptance.

“I hope that by sharing my humanity, pain, tears, laughter, joy, and biggest struggles on film, it will shed light on what it means to live as a transgender individual. I have always believed that differences between people should not equal divisions and I simply want to create something that could help build a bridge between my community and the rest of the world,” the model says in a statement on the fundraising website.

Here is her message to you, which also includes footage shot for the documentary.
