If you have been looking for a new device that can help you store all your important digital content, you may want to take into consideration one such device designed by Tranquil PC. The company has just unveiled a new media server, dubbed AVA RS5, which delivers a rather interesting feature. Unlike most of the other home storage devices on the market, the AVA RS5 comes with a slot-load optical drive, which can be used in a number of ways.

As far as technical specifications go, the new AVA RS5 is powered by a low-power, dual-core 1.6GHz Atom 330 processor, coupled with 2GB of DDR2 memory. The external storage device offers support for up to five 3.5-inch hard disk drives for a total of 10TB of storage space, when using the latest 2TB hard drives from Western Digital. As mentioned earlier, one of the most interesting features of this storage media server is its integrated optical drive support, which can come in the form of either a combo CD/DVD drive or a Blu Ray optical drive. On the front panel, users will find the Power Mode and Backup switches, multi-colored status LEDs as well as two USB 2.0 ports.

The AVA RS5 can be used in a number of ways, including as a Windows Home Server PP2 pre-installed, DNLA server, iTunes Server and more. The base unit weighs 7.5Kg, when fitted with one hard drive, and measures 310 x 320 x 290cm. Price wise, the basic system will set you back approximately US$1,254, which can easily go higher if you decide to upgrade to 2TB hard drives and a Blu-ray optical drive.

According to Tranquil PC, its newest media server will begin shipping on April 20, so you'll still have to wait some time before you get a chance to try one for yourselves.
