Two trains collided head-on in western Switzerland on Monday, July 29. The image shown above reveals the extent of the damage to the equipment.

The crash between the Swiss Federal Railways trains took place at Granges-près-Marnand in the Vaud region.

The location has been pinpointed at 100m (328 feet) from a station. At 7pm, one train traveling towards the station from Lausanne hit another one heading the other way.

The Swiss Accident Investigation Board is currently looking into the cause of the accident.

The driver of one of the trains died in the crash, NBC News reports. His body was trapped in the wreckage, with rescuers not knowing at first whether he was alive.

A helicopter, an ambulance, and several fire trucks were dispatched to the scene during the rescue effort.

35 people were injured, five of whom incurred serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. Sky News informs that they have been hospitalized in Payerne and Lausanne.
