It's not the end yet for Sparky – not if Victor has a say in it

When Tim Burton first made “Frankenweenie” for Disney over 2 decades ago, he got the boot for even considering showing audiences such an animated film. Times have changed and so have people's tastes.

Above is the first official trailer for “Frankenweenie,” a family-friendly take on the classic Frankenstein story.

Made in stop motion animation in black and white, the film promises to be as weird (understood in a very Tim Burton-esque way) as it will be adorable.

Victor is a little boy who loves his dog, Sparky, very much. When the dog dies, Victor decides to do whatever he can to bring him back, one way or another.

Eventually, he does just that, with some help from electrical current and, apparently, lots of stitches.

“He tries to hide his home-sewn creation, but when Sparky gets out, Victor’s fellow students, teachers and the entire town all learn that getting a new 'leash on life' can be monstrous,” the synopsis says.

Check out the trailer. The film will be out in theaters on October 5, 2012.
