Buzz for Robert Rodriguez’s upcoming film has been going strong ever since he first introduced the Machete character in a faux trailer smack in the middle of “Grindhouse.” In time, Rodriguez gathered some of the biggest and surprising stars to appear in the film that would simply be called “Machete,” while also making sure he constantly kept interest in the film high through traditional word of mouth. After such a long time wondering, fans have now a first look at the film, thanks to the first official trailer, Examiner says.

As we also noted on previous occasions, “Machete” stars longtime Rodriguez collaborator Danny Trejo as the title character, Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert de Niro and even a cameo from Steven Seagal himself. It’s a bloody story told in typical B-movie Rodriguez fashion, of a man who wanted to lead a normal life but found himself in extraordinary circumstances, calling for extraordinary actions.

“For months now there has been a lot of buzz around the new Robert Rodriguez action film, ‘Machete.’ The cast includes Danny Trejo at the lead, Michelle Rodriguez, Robert De Niro, Jessica Alba, Cheech Marin, Jeff Fahey, Lindsay Lohan, and even Steven Seagal. In true Grindhouse fashion, ‘Machete’ looks to be a violent bloodbath with all the action and carnage you can handle,” the aforementioned e-zine says.

“The highly skilled Federale Machete is hired by some unsavory types to assassinate a senator. But just as he’s about to take the shot, he notices someone aiming at him and realizes he’s been set up. He barely survives the sniper’s bullet, and is soon out for revenge on his former employers, with the reluctant assistance of his old friend Cheech Marin, who has become a priest and taken a vow of nonviolence. If you hire him to take out the bad guys, make sure the bad guys aren’t you!” Examiner writes of the trailer.

Of course, neither this trailer nor the film, which will be out this September, are family friendly so discretion is recommended when watching the former, the video below. Then again, this is a Rodriguez film so those expecting the trailer to be anything but a stylized ode to violence would be better off watching something else.
