Ryan Reynolds has already proved to the industry that he’s more than just a pretty face – and a perfectly toned body, as well. Having already starred in romcoms and action movies, the actor is about to make his debut in a twisted thriller that he has to carry all by himself, Rodrigo Cortes’ “Buried,” which will premiere at this year’s Sundance Festival and for which a first teaser trailer has already been released, as Daemon’s Movies can confirm.

The plot of the film is as such that few other actors get to appear in it; in fact, it is being said that, for true Ryan Reynolds’ fans, this should be a dream come true as the entire movie is about him being buried in a coffin, trying to make his escape. “Buried” seems to follow the trend of niche movies by approaching the faux-documentary style, in that Reynolds’ character only has with him a camera phone and a lighter, using both to document what he considers his final hours.

“Check out the teaser trailer for ‘Buried’ which stars Ryan Reynolds and is directed by Rodrigo Cortes. That looks like it’s going to be a fantastic performance from Ryan Reynolds, but it’s way too tortured for me to be able to stomach it. Part of me is curious about it though, so you never know, if it gets a lot of positive buzz I might have to suck it up and go see it,” the aforementioned movie-oriented publication notes. Others too feel that “Buried” looks somewhat too twisted to be for those weak as a kitten. Curiosity might be getting the best of them in the end, though.

“‘Buried’ Synopsis: A U.S. contractor working in Iraq awakes to find he is buried alive inside a coffin. With only a lighter and a cell phone, it’s a race against time to escape this claustrophobic death trap. ‘Buried’ will have its World Premiere at the 2010 Sundance Film Festival as part of the Park City at Midnight out-of-competition lineup,” the e-zine goes on to say. The recently released teaser trailer, though described as truly horrifying for appealing to a very intimate, dark fear (that of being buried alive), as opposed to how horror flicks impact the viewer, is already getting plenty of buzz in the blogosphere.

What’s more, talk in the industry has it that, while premiering out of competition at Sundance, a bidding war over “Buried” is forthcoming. As it’s common knowledge, independent and small budget productions attend Sundance in the hope of finding domestic and international distributors. Of these, many major players are already thinking of snagging Ryan Reynolds’ “Buried.”
