Movie shelved for years will eventually come out in March 2012

Before he backed out of hosting the Oscars, Eddie Murphy was getting ready to promote a new film, the comedy “A Thousand Words.” Made in 2003 and shelved after disastrous screen tests, we can now have a first look at it.

The trailer for the film has been released and, in all fairness, it hints at another mindless comedy the likes of which Murphy has been making by the dozen in recent years.

He's playing a man similar to Jim Carrey's character in “Liar Liar,” a man who would say anything to have it his way.

At one point, he is told he has only 1,000 words left, after which he will die. Oddly enough – but not entirely surprising – he doesn't embark on a journey of self-discovery and reinvention.

Instead, he starts looking for alternatives to communicate with others, all of which aim to be fun but only a few actually are so.

“A Thousand Words” comes out in theaters on March 23, 2012, with Paramount probably thinking people would see the movie because of the Oscar hype Eddie would get as host.
