One of the reasons Christina Aguilera canceled a planned and announced tour in support of her latest album “Bionic” was the release of her first feature film. Called “Burlesque,” the pic stars the singer dubbed The Voice as a simple girl chasing a huge dream. As InsideMovies confirms, a first trailer has dropped, giving fans an idea of what they’re to expect.
Given the many singers who tried to make a crossover into film – and most failed – and this type of flick, that was once so popular, whether Christina’s “Burlesque” will suffer the same fate is the question on everyone’s lips right now. Judging by the trailer only, it would seem that the film has great potential at being a visual extravaganza not devoid of lots of extraordinary moments but if that will actually be the case remains to be seen.
“The trailer for director Steven Antin’s star studded debut feature ‘Burlesque’ has hit the web, and it features more wigs, powder makeup and costume changes than a community theater production of ‘Cabaret.’ The trailer gives us our first look at the spicy new musical starring Christina Aguilera as a small town girl who ends up working in a big city burlesque club and rubbing elbows with people like Cher, Eric Dane, Julianne Hough, Kristen Bell and Stanley Tucci,” InsideMovies writes.
Antin, the director of the film, may be a name that rings a bell with many – and that’s because she is the founder of the Las Vegas burlesque act and the pop band the Pussycat Dolls, or PCD. She’s not the only big named involved in this production, either. “The sprawling cast of ‘Burlesque’ also features Peter Gallagher, Alan Cumming and Cam Gigandet. Are we looking at the next ‘Chicago’ here or will ‘Burlesque’ turn out more like the Mariah Carey-fronted disaster ‘Glitter’?” the same movie-oriented publication asks.
As it happens, no one will know the answer to that question until “Burlesque” isn’t released. The film is scheduled to arrive in US theaters on November 14, so it’s a pretty long wait ahead. In the meantime, below is the first official trailer. Enjoy.
