Developer Berbie has recently posted an update to its route-planning software solution for Mac OS X, announcing that it has fixed a problem with the nikeplus importer, as well as improving stability for the iPhone track importer. TrailRunner can display maps and elevation data from web-based mapping services like USGS topo maps, import GPS Recordings from Trails for iPhone, as well as import tracks and workouts from GPS fitness devices like the Garmin ForeRunner or Garmin Edge.

Although changes in version 2.1 Build 444 include just the two aforementioned enhancements, TrailRunner 1.6 Build 209 (for Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger) also includes a handful of bug fixes, as well as improvements in key areas of the application.

Berbie believes it has fixed the errors: "failed to split at" and "_duringModifySectionsStack == 0" (crash-reporters) and claims to have added a new route from the Selection command, thanks to user feedback, as well as fixing issues with undo for layout track. Other bug fixes include resolving an edit route date error, one generated by adding waypoints too near to each other, which threw an error instead of a simple info, and resolving a filname-encoding problem in the weblog.

Manually adding a track that is similar to an existing one now gives the option to keep both, according to the release notes for the newest Tiger version of the app. Berbie also added new Hiking maps for Spain (including Mallorca and Menorca), and improved the map Reload Command under File > Consolidate.

A note for the readers before downloading TrailRunner – the program is still in the pre-release state. Although downloading and using the app is free, all current releases of TrailRunner will only run for about three months. Users are advised to regularly update to the most current version, as well as review and accept the License Agreement that comes with the application, before using it. TrailRunner versions above 1.6 (including the one available for download today) require Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard to run. The only remaining version supported on Tiger is TrailRunner 1.6. TrailRunner is updated on a weekly basis with very few exceptions.
