If ten years ago television was the main provider of entertainment for the average household, today things have started to change.

An increasing number of people no longer come home, jump on the couch and turn on the TV. Instead, they power up their tablets in order to listen to news, watch their favorite shows or just check out the latest entertainment program.

A new study by Ooyala, which has pulled information from TV channels like ESPN, FOX Sports and Comedy Central, claims that people are using tablets more and more when it comes to watching TV.

The research has found that tablet video-streaming has grown with a whopping 133% year-over-year. More than that, it accounted for 15% of all the streamed video in Q3, a record in itself.

The study included more than 200 million unique monthly viewers spread across 130 countries. Ooyala took into account streamed video that is live, so YouTube, Netflix and re-run hours weren't include in the study.

The survey found average tablet viewers watched 46 minutes of video daily, but this still doesn't beat the average time Americans spend watching TV (3 hours daily in 2012). Nevertheless, it's pretty obvious from this study that the tablets have slowly but surely started to kill off the TV.
