The actor is getting better but the scam is potentially dangerous

Since cybercriminals spare no occasion to attract as many victims as possible, one of the recent scams on Facebook takes advantage of Tracy Morgan’s unfortunate car accident.

The crooks are luring the victims with the fake video news that the actor is dead, as a result of the recent car crash he’s been involved in.

The purpose of these scams is usually to drive traffic to an address where a survey needs to be completed.

In this case, however, the deceitful operation could have more dire consequences because, according to Malwarebytes, it leads to a file download, which could be anything from a potentially unwanted program to malicious software that could steal sensitive information from the computer.

Another risk run by the user is phishing, which could lead to handing control to the perpetrators.

Malwarebytes did not perform an analysis of the downloaded file and there is no information about the dangers it poses; but an image is provided with an offer to download a Codec Performer update from a very dodgy-looking page.

In any case, Tracy Morgan is alive and his health is improving. He has been released from the hospital and moved to a rehab center, where he is to stay for a few weeks.
