Codemasters, the developer of realistic racing experiences like Grid or Dirt, confirms a brand new project called Toybox Turbos that brings a tongue-in-cheek toy racing title filled with crazy powers and plenty of destruction.

Codemasters has made a name for itself with a variety of interesting racing titles, most of them approaching either hardcore rallying experiences, like the Dirt franchise, or competitive ones through the Grid series.

Toybox Turbos brings retro-inspired racing

After bringing forth Grid Autosport a few months ago, it seems that Codemasters wants a breath of fresh air, as it's just confirmed Toybox Turbos, a new racing experience that features toy race cars.

Inspired by old-school titles like Revolt, Toybox Turbos wants to bring fun multiplayer action, not to mention some varied single-player challenges that see players race across table tops, pool halls, and many other unique environments that aren't traditionally seen in regular racing experiences.

Plenty of features are packed into the racer

Players will not only compete in terms of pure racing skills, but also through the use of abilities and power ups, similar to many karting games nowadays.

"Each table top track is full of obstacles and shortcuts and filled with awesome and ridiculous power-ups. Use mines, machines guns and, of course, giant (well technically they are pretty small), car-mounted hammers as you race a selection of 35 super-fun toy vehicles, ranging from sports cars to moon buggies, diggers, ice cream vans and loads more," Codemasters explains.

Single-player and multiplayer modes are included

Toybox Turbos features six game modes and some "epic boss battles" in the single-player campaign. From classic races to time trials and a few new experiences called Overtake, Elimination, Escape, or Countdown, players can enter a lot of different challenges.

"Sprint for the line in Classic Races, set your best time in Time Trial, pass turbocharged busses in Overtake, avoid getting wiped out by the tide in Escape, beat the clock in Countdown, and race to the edge of the screen in Elimination mode," the studio says.

Besides the single-player action, Toybox Turbos also has local and online multiplayer that supports up to four players.

Toybox Turbos is set to appear in November for the PC platform via the Steam service and Codemasters promises a launch on Xbox 360 and "PlayStation" in the future. It's unclear if the title will appear just for the PS3 or it will launch for other platforms in that family, such as PS Vita or PS4.
