Earlier this month, folks living in the small town of Vulcan in Canada started an Indiegogo campaign set to run until October 4. The campaign aims to raise a whopping CA$2 billion (about $1.8 billion / €1.36 billion).

That's right. Billions. With a loud and clear “b.” As explained on Indiegogo, the folks behind this campaign plan to use the money to build a full-scale replica of the starship Enterprise featured in the TV franchise “Star Trek.”

The reason why they need this much money is because they plan on making their Enterprise a fully-functional starship. Hence, they can't exactly built it out of carton in a desperate attempt to cut costs.

Mind you, the CA$2 billion these people are now trying to raise will only suffice to fund research into the creation and development of warp-drive technology. To actually build the ship, they will need much more.

Specifically, word has it that this ambitious project will take about 4 decades to complete, and will come with a price tag of CA$1.132 trillion.

I could go through the trouble of converting this sum into US$ and €, but instead I will just ask you to close your eyes and imagine a mountain of cash. Sitting in the middle of an ocean of money.

Truth be told, it's highly unlikely this campaign will reach its goal. Then again, there are a lot of “Star Trek” fans in the world, so maybe the people of Vulcan will get to see their dream come true.
