Community Mourns the Loss of a Kidnapped Chicken

Those of you who have pets are well aware of how much these companions mean for most – if not all – members of the family. Some might even argue that they need to be given about the same consideration that one gives to their next of kin.

Therefore, one need not poke fun at the news that a Brazilian mother, together with her young daughter, were truly saddened when they came to realize that their pet chicken, namen Rufinha, had been kidnapped by a man who supposedly broke into their home and took nothing but this animal.

Police investigators concluded that the bird ended up being traded in for drugs, as such similar incidents seem to have occurred in the past as well.

Searches for the young chick went on for about a week without yielding any results, and by now the Oliveiras have pretty much lost all hope of ever being reunited with their beloved pet bird.

More so given the fact that local newspapers did their best in raising awareness with respect to the fact that Rufinha had been taken away from its family, yet nobody stepped up to offer any kind of information.

To cut a long story short: in spite of these efforts, both the culprit, and Rufinha are still nowhere to be found. Therefore, the Oliveiras decided that the time has come to hold a symbolic burial for their pet, as this will help them put this unfortunate event behind them.

As TreeHugger reports, Genecira de Oliveira (i.e. the mother) told the press that, “People may even find this funny situation, but they don't know how much we are suffering without our chicken because she was very special to us.” Furthermore, “Making this funeral for Rafinha hardly expresses what she represented in our lives in these five years.”

According to the same source, the entire community is expected to participate in this funeral, as Rufinha used to be a highly appreciated bird in this Brazilian town.
