A 25-year-old British tourist has been injured after jumping out the window of a hotel in India, in a bid to escape the owner suspected of trying to force himself on her.

India TV News writes that the unidentified victim was offered a free massage in the middle of the night by Sachin Chauhan of Delhi.

The woman was staying on the first floor of the Hotel Agra Mahal in Agra as she was planning a visit to the Taj Mahal, located 4 km (2.5 miles) away.

Senior Agra police superintendent of police Subhash Chandra Dubey mentions that Chauhan has claimed that the massage service is provided for all foreign guests.

After knocking and being refused an invitation inside, he allegedly came back with a security guard carrying a key, at which point the traveler locked the door and made a run for it out the window.

The guest has asked for a 4 a.m. wake-up call, but Chauhan tried to enter her room at around 3.45 a.m. Live Mint noted that he told authorities about trying to forcibly open the door once staff noticed that the woman wasn't answering the Intercom.

The British national has sustained ligament injuries to one of her legs and she has been treated at a hospital in the district.

The gang rape report of a Swiss national in India's Madhya Pradesh state made the news just last Friday.

This recent incident involving a British citizen has prompted UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) reps to put out a warning addressing all female visitors to the country.

“We are aware of an incident involving a British national in Agra, India, and are urgently looking into it. We are in contact with local authorities and are providing consular assistance to the woman.

“Women travelers should exercise caution when traveling in India even if they are traveling in a group,” a spokesperson says in a statement.
