Touch screen seems to have been the breakthrough technology lately. The iPhone might have taunted the market enough for everyone to have mobile phones with similar functions. The touch one seems to have been most appealing.
Mobile devices equipped with touch screen have been
available for a long time now. Actually, major growth rates have also been registered for this technology even before the iPhone made it so desirable. Since then, all emerging new handsets which came with this function included have been thought to try to compete with Apple's phone, even though figures show that it was the natural way to go anyway for mobile phones technology.
iSuppli Corporation has reached the conclusion that the global shipment of touch-screen technologies will double in the next five years. At this time, the overall sales profit is of USD 2.4 billion. By year 2012, this number will have reached USD 4.4 billion, which shows a considerable development perspective.
The company sees the future of
touch screen technology as welcomed in a large number of domains, not only in the mobility one. "As the market matures, iSuppli believes touch-screen displays will find a role in nearly every aspect of electronics life, from planes, to automobiles, to machine-control systems, to home appliances", said Jennifer Colegrove, senior analyst, display technology and strategy for iSuppli. Moreover, "Demand for touch-screen displays is being driven primarily by the mobile-phone and consumer-electronics industries-specifically portable game consoles, Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs) and Portable Navigation Devices (PNDs)".
iSuppli sees this growth as a constant one, with no major fluctuations. Still, future might prove them wrong, with the possible release of a
revolutionary touch-enabled mobile phone within the next few years. As this technology is constantly developing, such a possibility is not out of the question, although predictions can not be made based only on figures.
