With Inter getting better and better and Milan still one of the most powerful teams in Europe, AS Roma's chances for winning their 3rd Scudetto in club's history seem close to zero. Some might also argue that Roma has no chance whatsoever to win the Serie A title.
And one of those guys is Francesco Totti himself. The Roman captain admitted, before Italy's European qualifier against Lithuania, that his team has no chance of conquering
another title. Moreover, despite their 8-point sanction, Totti considers Milan one of the favorites for clinching the 2006/07 Serie A Scudetto.
"Let's just say that the Italian title is a little bit too exaggerated. We don't think about that now. Inter and Milan have something more. We don't have to get useless hopes. We have to play each game at the same intensity that made us clinch that incredible record last year", admitted the world champion.
Roma was lying in 6th place after the first 19 rounds, but managed to win 11 matches in a row - new Serie A record - and climbed all the way to 4th. A draw at home to Inter made then end that spectacular series.
Still, due to Ac Milan, Fiorentina and Juventus' sanctions, AS Roma ended the Serie A 2nd overall and automatically entered the Champions League. Roma managed to hold on to most of their stars during the transfer window. Both Chivu and Mexes refused to leave for Real Madrid.
Roma will meet Livorno in Serie A's opener, after which Luciano Spaletti's team will travel to Milan for their Inter clash in the 2nd round.
