The Premiership is not over yet. Although the 38 ended rounds might have made you think it's over, Tottenham officials feel different. Last weekend, the only thing made official by the last round in the Premiership was the winner. As for gaining the last place (4th) to qualify for the Champions League, everybody seemed to have gotten their answer.
Until yesterday. Arsenal needed a victory, which they got in style, against Wigan, and Tottenham wanted the same thing against West
Ham. But they failed, losing 2-1 away. It seemed that the Spurs would have to settle for the UEFA participation next year, while Arsenal qualified for the CL.
To go a little bit back, we have to remember the stats before Tottenham-West Ham clash. Tottenham were coming into the game with no less than 11 ill players, suffering from flue or food poisoning. This was the main reason why they have asked for a postponement. And West Ham agreed to it. The Premier League officials, however, wanted to hear nothing about this. More, they practically insulted Tottenham officials, making the announcement in the Arsenal pitch (the Spurs main rivals since forever), before the Arsenal - Wigan game.
"We have been put in an impossible situation. To add insult to injury, the FAPL's announcement that our game would not be postponed was made live on Sky TV from the pitch side at Highbury", said Tottenham chairman, Daniel Levy.
The club has made a petition to a re-play, for later next week. The letter was signed by 11 of the 20 Premiership clubs so far. Clubs like Chelsea and Manchester United also agreed to the Spurs demands. The letter will be examined by the Premier League officials and will find its answer somewhere this week.
