The developers at The Creative Assembly have put out a number of new screens linked to their upcoming Fall of the Samurai standalone expansion for the strategy game Total War: Shogun 2, which will be offered exclusively on the PC on March 23.

The screens show how the expansion changes various aspects of the strategy game, from the turn-based layer to the real-time battles, and there are some interesting shots of the newly introduced units, including some rather impressive battleships.

Fall of the Samurai moves the action to the end of the XIX century and gamers will need to choose whether they are interested in keeping close to tradition and the Shogun or whether they are more interested in the lure of modernity and Western made rifles.

The core mechanics of the game will remain largely unchanged, although the developers at The Creative Assembly are promising new generals, new traits, more options for the retinue in both single and multiplayer.
