Total War: Rome II is a few weeks away from launch and the team working on the strategy game at The Creative Assembly is delivering a video that focuses on the naval battles in the game and the newly included challenges.

The team says, “Naval battles work much more like land battles than ever before. Smaller, faster-moving ships are capable of outflanking larger, slower ships, in a manner similar to the cavalry/infantry dynamic.”

The developers also explain how ramming and boarding work and they show a new unit, the Firepot Dieres ship, designed to take out enemies by burning the wood of their vessels, but vulnerable without support.

Total War: Rome II is the first in the series that allows land and naval battles to take place at the same time.

The game will be out on September 4 exclusively on the PC and those who pre-order get access to Greek factions.
