The development team at The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA announce that they are working on a new piece of downloadable content for Total War: Rome II, called Pirates & Raiders, which is set to introduce both Thracian and Dacian factions to the strategy title.

The company also promises a number of new buildings, units, technologies, religions and mechanics, but at the moment, the new DLC pack does not have an official launch date.

The Creative Assembly states, “Players can now plunder the campaign map as the Ardiaei of Illyria, and the Thracian tribes of Tylis and the Odrysian Kingdom. With their own rosters of military and naval units, distinct traits and play styles, these Balkan factions offer a new and unique way to experience the Grand Campaign in Rome II.”

The newly introduced factions are happier when they are actively fighting their enemies and can quickly create a solid empire, even if they are hated by their neighbors for their raiding and their pirate attacks.

The developers are also giving all three new factions a lot of flavor when it comes to their units, adding, “The Illyrians of the Ardiaei favour piracy, the Thracians of the Odrysian Kingdom are excellent archers, while the people of Tylis, heirs to the Celtic migrations into Asia Minor, train their new melee infantry recruits to a high standard.”

A new set of religious buildings and tech are added in order to give the new factions more options when it comes to long-term development.

The Creative Assembly is offering all those interested in picking up the Pirates & Raiders DLC for Total War: Rome II a look at the included units in the official announcement on Steam.

Some more details are also offered in the official Rally Point video.

The coming content drop will also include a new set of mercenaries that can be hired by any faction included in the Grand Campaign and gives them more tactical options on the battlefield.

When Total War: Rome II was launched, a lot of players complained about technical issues with the game and about a set of gameplay mechanics that sometimes did not work as intended.

The Creative Assembly has since delivered a lot of patches and some free content to keep the community satisfied and the game is now in solid shape.

The studio has also suggested that it is currently also working on a bigger expansion that should introduce a new unique campaign, as Caesar in Gaul and Hannibal at the Gates have previously done.
