The development team at The Creative Assembly has moved fast after the announcement of the new Emperor Edition of Total War: Rome II and is now allowing all interested gamers to test out the changes that are coming by opting into a new beta patch.

In order to do so, gamers who want the beta patch need to go to Steam, find the game, move to the Properties tab and then go to Betas in order to choose the “patch15 (emperor edition)” from the dropdown list that appears.

A 132 MB patch will then be downloaded and applied, and gamers can also choose to get an update for the official Assembly Kit for Total War: Rome II, which means that they can create new content for the title that’s compatible with the coming changes.

Patch 15 seems to be the most important one delivered by The Creative Assembly for the strategy title so far, with at least two major changes that are designed to introduce a major rebalance to the campaign, and full details can be obtained from the official wiki.

The political side of the title has been rebalanced in order to change how the civil war at the end takes place and to make the Gravitas system more important.

The studio states, “Now it is perfectly possible to avoid civil wars if you manage politics right. You do that via actions, getting promotions or by having generals win battles and skilling up. But as the game goes on and you expand it will be harder and harder to avoid civil wars.”

At the same time, buildings for all regions have been rebalanced in order to allow gamers to focus on the resources that are present and to offer more individuality to the various locations that the factions can conquer and then develop.

Squalor should now be less of a problem but gamers will have to pay more attention to choices about development, especially given that armor and weapon bonuses are only associated with iron producing areas.

Total War: Rome II – Emperor Edition does not have an official launch date at the moment and will only arrive on the PC.

All those who have bought the title already will be upgraded for free and will get access to an all new Augustus Imperator campaign, which will catalog the wars that took place after the death of Caesar in order to decide who would be the heir of his political power.
