The development team at The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA are announcing that they are launching a new promotional campaign for the upcoming Total War: Attila, called Tales of the Apocalypse, which includes a number of short stories written by members of the studio.

All of them are designed to show the atmosphere of the coming title and to reveal the kind of experience that players will get from the strategy title.

The first of the short stories linked to Total War: Attila is called South and can be read in full on the official Total War wiki page.

The short description offered by the developers states, "As the winters grew longer and robbed people of their harvests, populations across Europe began striking southwards in search of more fertile lands to call home. Not all would find the prosperity they sought."

The text is clearly designed to show how climate changes during the fifth century are changing the lives of many inhabitants of northern provinces of Europe and are forcing them to take into account migration towards better lands, which unfortunately are occupied by other tribes.

Total War: Attila will ask gamers to make a number of tough choices in order to ensure the survival of the faction they choose to lead, before they are able to think about its expansion.

Total War: Attila will also include expanded fear and fire mechanics

The new strategy title from The Creative Assembly is designed to allow players to experience a carefully re-created period in history, when the Roman Empire is feeling both internal and external pressure and the map of Europe is being redrawn.

Climate change will be a powerful force on a strategic level, and when it comes to the battlefield, gamers will have to use both fear and fire effectively, trying to break the morale of enemy forces before they actually engage them in combat.

Total War: Attila includes complex new mechanics for migratory factions, which allow them to move freely and get powerful military, but all their advantages are erased when they make the choice to settle down and try to expand their wealth.

The new strategy experience will be offered only on the PC and arrives on February 17.
