Unclear why the team is not delivering them today

Video game developer The Creative Assembly is announcing that it is delaying the release of both the Longbeards downloadable content pack for Total War: Attila and the patch that was supposed to be launched alongside it, and no official reason is given at the moment.

The studio claims that it needs another extra week for the development process of the DLC, but it is not explaining why it could not separate the patch from it, as the changes included sounded very interesting and would have improved the overall game experience.

The biggest modification coming to Total War: Attila is a change in how gate attack works during sieges, with gamers now needing to hack them apart if they are reinforced or made of bronze, which tends to lead to higher losses for the attacker if they lack access to siege engines.

The patch was also supposed to improve the tactical field battles and the way the Artificial Intelligence deals with some game mechanics.

It's unclear whether The Creative Assembly aims to introduce more elements to the update in the coming week.

The Longbeards DLC pack for Total War: Attila will introduce three new factions, each with their own unit roster and their characteristics, for gamers to use in both the campaign and standalone battles.

The company also announces that "To lessen the blow of not getting your hands on the Langobards, the Alamans and the Burgundians quite as soon, we’re running a giveaway where you can win the very helm worn in our Total War: Attila - Special Edition Hunboxing. Warning: may contain traces of Will."

Details on the competition are available on the official forums.

Total War: Attila will get plenty of DLC and patch support

The new strategy game is much better than Rome II was on launch and The Creative Assembly says that it plans to deliver new content and changes via patches for a long time coming.

Presumably, the studio will focus on culture DLC packs with new factions, but they might also introduce smaller, more focused campaigns like they have done with Caesar in Gaul or the Roman civil war.

It will be interesting to see whether there are any plans to also deliver free content for Total War: Attila at any point.
