The development team at The Creative Assembly and publisher SEGA are delivering a new trailer for their upcoming Total War: Attila, which is designed to show some of the factions that gamers will be able to control in the game while also offering players a look at the graphics quality of the experience.

The footage features an ominous narrator talking about the decline of the Roman civilization and about the way the split empire needs to use both force and diplomacy in order to keep its enemies at bay in the East, where a new type of warfare is threatening to allow invaders to overrun all civilized cities.

The Eastern Roman Empire has its seat in Byzantium, which is rapidly becoming a center of trade, but their tactics are still focused on classic formation warfare, which is rapidly becoming outdated as steppe tribes begin to use horse archers en masse and complex tactics to take out their foes.

The Creative Assembly quotes the book of Revelations in the trailer for Total War: Attila: "And I saw, and behold a white horse, and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him, and he went forth conquering, and to conquer."

The studio has already said that it wants for the game to capture the apocalyptic situations that Christians believed were upon them.

Total War: Attila aims for a darker atmosphere

The new strategy title will keep the core ideas of the franchise, including a turn-based map and tactical battles that are real time.

At the same time, the developers are aiming to make troops morale more important, with a focus on the terror that new enemies can inflict and on the effects of fire.

There are also improvements to the way units move around and the capabilities of the AI are also enhanced to offer more of a challenge to seasoned gamers.

Buildings will burn more realistically than ever and defensive operations need to be better organized in order to stand up to the new siege engines that Attila is using in his campaigns.

The Creative Assembly is not yet willing to say exactly how many factions will be included in the new Total War title or whether the company plans to introduce just one major campaign or it will deliver smaller scenarios built around all the campaigns that Attila has conducted over his lifetime.

Total War: Attila will be out in 2015 on the PC.
