Toshiba just broke its silence in order to announce not a new consumer-oriented product, but one that is meant for those applications that deal with printing, photocopying, scanning etc, a group of products dubbed e-STUDIO 455SE Series.

The new e-STUDIO 455SE Series have a unique advantage over competing solutions in the form of the Data Overwrite Kit.

No longer just an optional add-on, this kit erases data after every fax, print, copy and scan, so as to meet Department of Defense standard 5220.22M.

The HDD drive encryption is also enabled out of the box (128-bit AES encryption), while Full Network Authentication requires that users log in before granting access.

“Security is a major area of focus for Toshiba,” said Bill Melo, vice president, Marketing, Services and Solutions, TABS.

“Several years ago we made a move to differentiate ourselves in the industry by being proactive in training dealers and speaking to customers about this topic.”

“At the same time, we created our SecureMFP program which focuses on device, document, access and end-of-life security. We’re very happy to see customer awareness and demand increase, giving us the opportunity to make standard features such as Data Overwrite,” he added.

The new models are e-STUDIO 455SE 205, 255, 305, 355 and 455, are all monochrome devices (though they can scan in color) and have monthly copy volumes of 80K, 100K, 120K, 125K and 150K respectively.

What's more, the same machines have print speeds of 20, 25, 30, 35 and 45 respectively, plus the e-BRIDGE controller with Open Platform architecture.

Another thing mentioned in the release is that the series has achieved the latest Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Energy Star Tier Two rating and that power consumption is reduced thanks to a quick start-up technology.

Unfortunately, the announcement did not mention prices, but did say that Toshiba's network of dealers should already have them available.
