Toshiba has just announced an update to its Satellite notebook line, that now comes with enhanced design and increased functionality. The new Satellite offerings sport Toshiba's Fusion Finish in a Horizon pattern, that give the notebooks an unique blend of appearance and texture.

The Satellite U400, Satellite M300, Satellite A300 and Satellite P300 are the four updated computers that now sport Sleep-and-Charge USB ports and facial recognition technology, to go along with the completely re-imagined casings.

The newly-included Feather-Touch multimedia command keys are backlit with white light-emitting diodes in order to achieve a subtle, yet interesting glowing effect. The multimedia keys are touch-sensitive and lets users control the most important multimedia aspects, such as DVD and CD playback or sound volume.

"Building upon this strong foundation, the latest Satellite models are the result of thoughtful consideration and planning, which translates into a finished laptop that provides an abundance of premium computing features while standing out for its brilliant finish," said Jeff Barney, vice president of marketing, Digital Products Division at Toshiba.

Three of the four models, Satellite U400, M300, A300 and P300, now sport Dolby Sound Room technology, that creates a virtual surround sound experience no matter if the notebook is connected to a set of headphones or to a two-speaker setup. However, all the three models are factory-equipped with state-of-the-art Harman Kardon stereo speakers.

The newly-included Sleep-and-Charge USB ports allows the user to charge a wide range of consumer electronics applications such as MP3 players, mobile phones and PDA, by simply connecting them to the notebook. Moreover, the devices keep charging even if the notebook has been turned off.

The computer manufacturer also included facial recognition software, that allows the legit notebook user to log on just by sitting in front of the built-in webcam.

The company did not reveal pricing or availability information about its new line of products as of the moment of writing.
