Toshiba is really trying to increase its notebook market share and move closer to the leading market positions, currently occupied by HP, Dell and Acer. This is why it has decided to bring a refreshed lineup of Portégé and Tecra notebooks, designed to take advantage of the technical benefits provided by today's latest in computing technology, including Intel's recently released Centrino 2. On that note, Toshiba Canada added four laptops to its ultraportable Portégé series, and even introduced the new, premium Tecra R10.

The new Tecra portable computer system has been specifically designed for business users, making full use of Intel's latest mobile platform, Centrino 2. According to the company, the R10 laptop is the fastest in its lineup, and even has the highest level of security compared with any other Toshiba laptop. It boasts one of the latest Intel Core 2 Duo processors, the SP9400, which runs at 2.4GHz and is combined with an impressive 4GB of DDR2 memory, for optimum performance. In addition, users of the new Tecra portable computer system will be provided with 200GB of storage space on a 7200RPM hard disk drive, while the NVIDIA Quadro NVS 150M graphics controller comes with 128MB of dedicated memory for higher performance.

The company also announced the new Portégé M750 Tablet PC and the affordable Portégé A600, both of which are built using Intel's Centrino 2 processor technology, and boast a Mobile Intel GMA X4500 graphics controller, with up to 256MB of shared video memory. Other features include a titanium silver chassis, DVD Super-Multi Double layer drive, wireless capabilities and integrated web camera and microphone.

Also, the company has announced that its R600 Portégé laptop now comes with a weight of 2.14 lbs, and features Intel's Core 2 Duo ULV processor. According to the company, the latest version of its R600 notebook is the world's thinnest and lightest laptop.

“The new Portégé laptops are even lighter,” says Jerome Kudera, Toshiba Product Manager, “but more importantly, are more powerful, while our premium Tecra R10 is the fastest and most secure Toshiba laptop ever.”

Price-wise, you are looking at a suggested listing price between $1,499 and $3,299 for the Portégé R600, while the Tecra R10 starts at $1,999.
