Although Acer has certainly managed to steal the spotlight with today's impressive refresh of portable computer systems, other PC vendors have decided to announce some new products of their own. This is the case of Toshiba, which launched today its new Satellite Pro S300 model, the S300-EZ2521, designed for business and professional users. Behind a 15.4-inch form factor and a design that could hardly make it out of the crowd, the new Satellite Pro S300 portable PC is powered by one of Intel's latest Core 2 Duo processors and comes at a starting price point of $799.

“We continue to bring to market products that utilize the latest technology advancements, while providing competitive pricing that cost-conscious mobile professionals can afford,” said Carl Pinto, vice president of Product Development and Marketing of Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc.

As far as technical specifications go, the new 15-inch laptop from Toshiba is fairly common, as it's powered by a 2.2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo T6600 processor with 3GB of DDR2 memory, a 250GB 5400RPM SATA hard drive, a DVD-SuperMulti optical disc drive and the Intel integrated GMA 4500MHD. The WXGA widescreen 15.4-inch display features TruBrite technology and is featured with a built-in webcam with Business Card Reader software. Additional features include wireless 802.11 a/g/n and Bluetooth 2.1+EDR connectivity, an eSATA/USB Combo sleep and Charge port as well as EasyGuard Technology featuring PC health monitor.

The new system should be already available through select Toshiba partners and resellers, with a price tag that starts at $799. It comes with a 2-year standard limited warranty and, according to Toshiba, it brings several enhancements that are meant to protect the laptop from theft, spills and jolts, a feature that might make you overlook the lack of aesthetics.
