Toshiba's Digital Products Division has just announced the release of a new 3.5-inch external hard disk drive, marking the company's entry in the market for 3.5-inch external storage solutions. The new product from Toshiba has been designed to provide users with an alternative to other 3.5-inch external storage solutions, offering an easy-to-use backup device that incorporates dual connectivity and a series of software features, in addition to 1TB of storage capacity.

“On the heels of successfully building a 2.5-inch external HDD business, we are ready to expand our hard drive expertise into the 3.5-inch HDD market,” said Michael Cassidy, director, accessories and HDD marketing, Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc., Digital Products Division. “We designed the external hard drive to provide consumers an easy-to-use back up option that not only performs above competition, but is also a stylish accessory for their PC.”

Available in capacities of 640GB and 1TB, the new Toshiba 3.5-inch External HDD measures 6.6(W) x 6.8(L) x 1.34 (H) inches. The drive has been featured with one USB 2.0 port, as well as an eSATA, providing users with a choice for connecting the hard drive to a computer system. Enclosed inside a sleek and slim chassis, there's a 3.5-inch hard drive that boasts a platter speed of 5400RPM. In addition to the high-capacity storage solution, Toshiba's latest external drive has also been featured with backup software that is meant to provide users with an easy way of backing up their critical data.

According to Toshiba, the new external hard drive has been designed to match the company's line of consumer laptops, featuring a sleek glossy finish and a slim form factor. As far as pricing and availability goes, the new drives are available now through select Toshiba partners or through the company's website, for an MSRP of US$129.99 and US$159.99, for the 640GB and 1TB models, respectively.
