Toshiba Corp., a leading developer of memory card technologies and solutions, along with its subsidiary Toshiba America Electronic Components, Inc., has unveiled the latest addition to its memory card offering, the 16GB microSDHC products, which deliver the largest capacity available on the market. Moreover, the company also announced that it is extending its memory card lineup with ultra fast read/write 8GB and 16GB SDHC products. According to the company, the new SDHC cards will enter mass production in December, while the production of the microSDHC cards starts in January 2009.

Toshiba also announced that the new SDHC memory cards had been developed in compliance with the SD memory standard Ver. 2.00, and that the two newly presented cards support class 6 ultra fast read/write speed, being able to peak a maximum write speed of 20MB per second. The cards are able to deliver the high performance needed for continuous shooting of still images and recording video. The new products are aiming at the market segment that requires the combination of high capacities with high speed data read and write. Moreover, the new microSDHC cards can be used with SDHC slots through an adapter.

Amid the growing demand for larger data storage capacities in the portable digital consumer products, microSDHC cards are a fit solution for mobile phones, while SDHC cards work great with other digital consumer products. The wide-range of memory cards announced by Toshiba, coupled with their high-level specifications, will allow third-party developers to bring more applications to future products. The company also announced it plans to further expand its SD memory card series to meet market demand.

The current Toshiba offering includes SD, SD High-Capacity (SDHC), microSD and microSDHC cards characterized by high-capacity and high-performance. Moreover, the SD lineup features cryptographic security, protection of copyrighted data, high-data transfer rate for fast copy/download and high storage capacity. The Toshiba SDHC Memory card line-up includes as of today microSDHC cards in capacities ranging from 2GB to 16GB, as well as a selection of SDHC Cards in various speed classes with capacities of up to 32GB.
