Toshiba Australia has just announced that its latest Android-based product, the Toshiba Thrive tablet will land in stores across the country by the end of the month.

The device will be available for purchase for $579 AUD (about $612), but there's no information regarding the network operators that will carry the tablet.

In addition, Toshiba will also offer an extra 6-cell battery, which can be purchased separately for 79.95 AUD (about $85).

Although Toshiba confirmed that Thrive pre-orders will start on June 13th and the first shipments will be delivered in early July, it appears that Aussies will be able to get it a bit earlier.

The tablet is said to be delivered with the latest Android 3.1 Honeycomb platform and bundles a wide range of external ports including two USB ports, a miniUSB and an HDMI-out port, an SD card slot, as well as a dock connection port.

As expected, the Thrive is equipped with a dual-core Tegra 2 processor with NVIDIA GeForce graphics CPU for HD-quality video and console-like gaming.

Toshiba Thrive features a 5-megapixel photo snapper on the back, as well as a 2-megapixel secondary front-facing camera for video chat.

Besides the additional battery mentioned above, Toshiba will also offer several accessories including docks and cases, which will be purchasable separately.

Software-wise, Toshiba Thrive is bundled with several interesting apps including File Manager, Media Manager, Quick Office, Need For Speed, PrinterShare and LogMeIn.

Even though Toshiba said that it would release three versions of the Thrive, none will feature 3G connectivity, instead they will have different storage size: 8GB priced at $429.99, a 16GB model priced at $479.99 and a 32GB model priced at $579.99.

Unfortunately, the Toshiba Thrive seems to be more expensive in Australia, as customers will have to pay $40 more than the US consumers.
