ALK Technologies announced recently that its CoPilot Live GPS navigation system would be available on the Toshiba TG01 mobile phone that has been unveiled during the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona last week.

CoPilot Live is able to tap into the handset's GPS capabilities so as to provide users with what the company promotes as a full-featured turn-by-turn navigation, as well as with 3D or 2D widescreen map views that resemble a lot those delivered by any premium dedicated navigation system. At the same time, the software is stated to be able to provide street maps along with real-time info services that would include traffic alerts, fuel price info and weather conditions.

In addition, the company also states that those who would like to try the CoPilot Live will also receive CoPilot's safety camera alerts, which offer free camera database updates. Users will be able to download the updates directly to their mobile phones.

Users who acquire a new Windows Mobile-powered Toshiba TG01 will be able to enjoy the navigation features provided by CoPilot Live on a rather powerful smartphone, while also viewing the maps on its 4.1-inch WVGA screen. The GPS navigation software would then be only one in a series of other apps that the handset's 1GHz Snapdragon platform will be able to bring to life for its demanding high-end smartphone users.

For the time being, no specific details on the availability of the CoPilot Live software, nor on the price of the application, have been unveiled but they are expected to surface in the near future. For what it's worth, the upcoming Toshiba TG01 mobile phone will only become available on the market sometime in the middle of the ongoing year, so I guess there is no hurry in releasing the app to the market in the shortest time possible.
